Issues
EMINENT DOMAIN:
As ownership of property is one of our most important rights, I support closing loopholes in eminent domain law which would allow government to take property from one private citizen/group and give it to another. Further, I would support requiring government to pay 125% of the fair market value of their property to owners displaced by eminent domain seizure for government purposes.
GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION:
The State Legislature should be held to the same standards, at minimum, as the general public in regards to voting on issues. As such I will aggressively pursue censure and other punishments for Representatives who ignore the "one person, one vote" policy and record multiple votes on issues in the Capitol, as KEYE TV in Austin exposed late last year. I fully support the efforts of any member of the general public to bring charges against legislators caught voting for individuals other than themselves.
GOVERNMENT SPENDING/PROPERTY TAX:
I support enforcing a balanced budget on the state government by reducing the size and scope of government rather than by increasing taxation. A moratorium on all forms of borrowing for the state government must be enacted in order that the state may focus on paying off existent debts. With the reduction in state debt and reduction in unnecessary spending, I support reducing the taxes upon citizens of Texas, particularly the property tax rate which is among the highest in the country.
CONTRACT WITH TEXAS:
If elected to the State House of Representatives, I will introduce and/or support the following five pieces of legislation, designed to increase the freedom enjoyed by Texas citizens and collectively known as the "Contract with Texas":
- Texas Affordable School Choice Act - Texans who choose private school or home-based education for their children can deduct expenses from their tax bill.
-
- Freedom of Gaming Act - Abolish the Texas Lottery Commission and legalize privately-run casinos and gaming enterprises.
- Ballot Access Reform Act - Give Texans more choices for leadership and remove ballot access barriers for citizens who wish to serve their communities in public office.
- Responsible Consumption of Spirits Act - Abolish the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and eliminate special taxes on legal beverages and age restrictions on drinking alcohol for adult Texans over 18 years of age.
- Texas Homegrown Medicine Act - Legalize the possession, use, farming, and sale of hemp as medicine, heating oil, paper, rope, clothing or other industrial uses.
